Charity has tips for families living with dementia

-

ALZHEIMER Scotland believes no one should face dementia alone and have been running the confidential 24-hour dementia helpline for 27 years. It gets 5000 calls and emails annually.

The festive season can be difficult for people living with dementia, so the charity has come up with tips to help families.

Play some familiar Christmas music or reminisce over photos. Put up decorations early and slowly. Spread out family visits. Create a quiet room. Keep the routine as familiar as possible. Get outside if you can for fresh air. Take time to enjoy Christmas. Watch your diet. Take time to talk. Don’t face dementia alone, talk to friends about it.

If you need information or a chat with someone who understands call the Alzheimer Scotland Freephone 24-hour Dementia Helpline on 0808 808 3000 or email helpline@alzscot.org
