Jordan believes he has exorcised Augusta demons of Rae’s Creek

-

JORDAN SPIETH insists he has already banished the bad memories of his disastrous 12th hole on Masters Sunday last April.

Spieth dunked two balls in Rae’s Creek at the devilish little par-three and signed for a quadruple-bogey seven.

He went from having a oneshot lead on the tee to three behind Danny Willett, and it was the Englishman who claimed the Green Jacket.

But the American has revealed he eradicated some of the demons on a pre-Christmas return to Augusta with some friends.

“I was very nervous when I got on the 12th tee,” he admitted. “I hit an eight-iron over the bunker to about 15 feet.

“I was pumped to hit the green. Then I hit my putt and it just about stopped short on the front lip and fell in for two.

“I gave a big fist pump. I was walking around with my hands up, like the demon has gone.

“And I went back the next morning and I hit a nine-iron this time to a left pin. It landed about three feet beyond the hole and it sucked back and almost went in.

“So I got two 2s out of No.12, the first time I went back!”

For those who doubt Jordan’s

account, he has jokingly asked for a video recording of his recent visit.

He added: “I know there are cameras out there. I have requested footage from those two birdies but I haven’t received it yet.

“I saw the Chairman and requested it because I’m sure somebody was watching what happened out there!”

AMERICAN pair Justin Thomas and Ryan Moore were both on fire on the back nine to take a joint lead at the halfway stage of the SBS Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

Thomas struck four birdies in his final eight holes, while Moore sank five in seven to sit atop the leaderboard on 12under, two shots clear.

Thomas, who went round in a six-under-par 67, might have been a solo leader had he not bogeyed the par-five 15th, his only blemish of an otherwise fine round. Moore also carded a 67. First-round leader Jimmy Walker and Patrick Reed are on 11-under, Reed recording the best round of day two with a superb eight-under 65.

World No. 1 Jason Day is four shots further back on seven-under.

Scotland’s Russell Knox lies in a tie for 15th on six-under with Jordan Spieth a further shot back.
