Scots town left in shock after man’s ‘suspicious’ death

DETECTIVES are treating the death of a man in Cambuslang yesterday as suspicious.

The body of the 45-year-old unnamed victim was found inside a house in the town’s Kyle Court at about 2am.

Yesterday, forensic examiners roped off a set of phone boxes near the address.

Dressed in protective clothing, masks and plastic shoe covers, a number of investigators examined the booths for evidence.

The scene shocked locals shopping on Cambuslang’s high street yesterday afternoon.

One regular at the John Fairweather Bar beside the phone boxes said: “The pub’s CCTV has someone coming out the block of flats and going into the phone box.

“The cops don’t know if the person making the call had witnessed anything.

“That’s why they’re all over it right now.”

The body was found just 300 yards from a police station in the South Lanarkshire town.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “At around 2am the body of a 45-year-old man was discovered within a house at Kyle Court in Cambuslang.

“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of the death.

“However, police are treating the death as suspicious in the meantime.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

It is understood the flat at the centre of the death is used by South Lanarkshire Council to rehouse needy individuals.

One resident said: “The council use it as a ‘scatter flat’.

“It means you never know who’s going to be in there from one week to the next.”

Meanwhile, a man is being treated for stab wounds after he was attacked by three men on his own doorstep in a Dumbarton.

Police said the 27-year-old victim heard a knock at the door of his home just after midnight yesterday.

When he answered it, he was “violently attacked” by three men he did not know.

Officers said images of the men had been captured on CCTV cameras in the area and they appealed for help in tracing them.

The images show one of the men walking with a limp and it’s believed that all of the suspects are in their 30s.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Sergeant Fiona Macarthur, said: “This man was violently attacked on his own doorstep.

“It is absolutely crucial that we trace the people responsible as soon as possible.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area in the early hours of this morning and saw three men or anything suspicious.”
