A SECOND-HALF Charlie Wyke strike, his 17th goal of the season, spared Carlisle a third consecutive defeat as the Cumbrians were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Morecambe.

Aaron Wildig gave Shrimps an early lead when Wilding coolly converted Kevin Ellison’s cross past Mark Gillespie in the seventh minute.

The visitors held out until Wyke’s 74th-minute effort, which followed the dismissal of defender Dean Winnard for a foul on Shaun Miller.

From the resultant free-kick, Nicky Adams’ curler was glanced past Barry Roche by Wyke’s header for the equaliser.

Blackpool goalkeeper Sam Slocombe saved a penalty as he preserved a point in a 0-0 draw at Cambridge.

Slocombe denied U’s top scorer Luke Berry 14 minutes from time, diving to his right to repel the spot-kick after Tom Aldred had been shown a straight red for pulling back Conor Newton as he ran through.

He had twice denied George Maris in the first half after defender Leon Legge had seen a header kept out by a post inside the first 10 minutes.

Following, the penalty stop and Aldred’s early departure, Blackpool could have nicked the win, but Brad Potts fired over when well placed.

Hartlepool’s poor form continued when James Collins scored the only goal of the game to condemn them to defeat at Crawley.

The loss leaves Pools with only one win from their last eight League games.

Sean Kavanagh had their best effort, but he saw a shot turned round a post by keeper Glenn Morris, before Collins struck for the home side.
