A change is as good as a rest? Don’t make me laugh

-

IT was supposed to give hard-pressed Premiership players a rest.

But for half of Scotland’s top division, the winter break has been a slog!

Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock have all been on their travels during the shutdown.

Their destinations varied wildly on the glamour spectrum, from Dubai (Celtic and Aberdeen) to Gateshead (Killie).

But it’s not the travel itself that bothers me. It’s what clubs chose to do with their time.

Apparently, at the behest of manager, Brendan Rodgers (left), only Celtic did not schedule a friendly, while Killie played twice!

Even a side that stayed home was at it, with Dundee playing Arbroath at Gayfield last Tuesday night.

While it’s nice for those clubs that can afford to jet off for warmer climes, the fact that all but one decided to organise a match makes a mockery of the so-called “break”.

If clubs need a break, fine. But if they want to play, they should be playing league games.

If the lower leagues can do the business in January, the Premiership has no excuse.
