A spa day–in your own home
AT this time of year, few of us have pennies to put aside for pampering. Thankfully, you don’t need to splash out or even leave the comfort of your own home to enjoy a good pampering session. Here’s our sister publication No.1 magazine’s guide to creating a DIY home spa.
Sugar scrub
THIS might be a recipe your grandmother used, which means it’s tried and tested and easy to do. All you need are cups of brown sugar, olive oil and porridge oats. Mix the ingredients together and apply all over your body, taking the time to really massage it all in – you may want to do this in the bath, as it can get a little messy. Then, rinse off with warm water and your skin will feel and look buttery-soft.
Home facial
BLITZ this delicious yet ultra-hydrating facial in your blender. Mix cold cream, yoghurt, honey, avocado and aloe vera gel. Paint in on your face with a foundation brush and allow it to set for 20 minutes, then rinse off with cold water. Your skin is sure to feel rejuvenated as well as looking fresh and bright.
Hair mask
LOVE that glossy, shiny look that you can only ever achieve at the hair salon? What if we told you you could get that look by raiding your kitchen cupboards and making your own hair mask? All you need is a cup of strawberries, one tablespoon of honey and one of coconut oil. Blend the ingredients to make a puree. Apply it to damp hair, working from root to tip. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly. The strawberries not only nourish the hair, but also get rid of any product build-up, while the coconut oil conditions and the honey give you lustrous locks to die for.
DIY manicure
GET ready for the best DIY mani/pedi. First, get your hands and feet ready with this homemade moisturiser. Combine cold single/ double cream, a couple of drops of tea tree oil, five drops of lavender oil, a tablespoon of olive oil and a banana in a blender. Once smooth, spread over your hands and feet, focusing especially on the cuticles. For extra moisturising, wrap up in oversized socks and mittens and sit back and relax for at least half an hour. You may want to do this in a big fluffy robe for that spa look!
