Kym’s portrayal will help grieving families
KYM MARSH is a very brave woman and a fine actress.
She had to relive the appalling tragedy of losing her baby son while filming the harrowing scenes in Coronation Street this week when her character, Michelle, gave birth prematurely and her little child died.
It was heartbreaking, but Kym gave what should be an award-winning performance that she hopes will raise awareness for parents who go through this terrible ordeal.
Both Kym and her co-star, Simon Gregson, who plays Michelle’s husband Steve Macdonald, have experienced real sadness.
Simon revealed this week that this wife has suffered 11 miscarriages during their 17-year marriage.
He also talked about something very important, which is how a husband or partner feels in this situation.
Simon experienced absolutely helplessness and was grieving for the babies he would never now see growing up.
Having gone through a miscarriage myself, I know how kind people are and their words of compassion helped me enormously, but far too often husbands and partners are overlooked and they are in just as much pain.
They have to be strong for their wives or girlfriends at a time when they are in such turmoil.
I think it is important that when a couple are unfortunate enough to go through losing a child, as well as a future they were so looking forward to, that everyone remembers both parents are in mourning.
It was really tough to watch those scenes in Coronation Street, but both writing and acting were pitch perfect and Kym hopes it will help charities who support parents, and also raise funds into researching the causes of miscarriage.
