LEAguE 1 RouNd-up

UWE ROSLER spared a thought for his opposite number as Fleetwood continued their push for promotion with a lastminute 1-0 win at Coventry.

Defender Cian Bolger powered in a header from a corner with just a minute to go to bring a win which keeps the Cod Army firmly in the hunt for a play-off place.

It meant Rosler’s men have now gone 10 games unbeaten – but Coventry have not won in the last 11 league matches and are seven points from safety.

While Bolger’s goal ensured justice was done, Rosler was more than aware it could have turned out differently.

“In general, we looked as if we had control of the game, but we did have one scary moment. They had a header from a cross which hit the post and in that situation you feel for them,” he said.

“When you are at the bottom those moment often turn out not to be in your favour. The post saved us.

“We stood very firm and I am very proud to be the head coach of that team because of the mentality they have shown.

“We didn’t play badly. They matched us up and tried to stop us playing and they did it effectively but we showed that we have options on the bench, that we can stay in the game and that our fitness helps us to stay focussed and win games. All those factors contributed.”

Elsewhere, leaders Sheffield United dropped two more points after Kieron Freeman salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Blades against Gillingham.

Chuks Aneke scored twice as MK Dons saw off Northampton 5-3, while Rochdale’s 10-game winning home league run at Spotland came to an emphatic end as they were hammered 4-0 by Oxford.
