NEW manager Dave Jones watched on as goals from Nicky Featherstone and Brad Walker earned Hartlepool a much-needed 2-0 win over Stevenage.

Jones, viewing the action from the stands ahead of undertaking his new role on Monday, saw the hosts produce an accomplished showing at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium.

Rhys Oates was denied from the spot after Ronnie Henry’s 40th-minute handball, but Featherstone soon grabbed the opener, firing into the roof of the net after seeing an initial effort superbly saved by Jamie Jones, before Walker turned home a second.

Carlisle could only draw 1-1 at 10-man Accrington, who played with a man less for 78 minutes following Matty Pearson’s dismissal for a foul on Macauley Gillesphey in the 12th minute.

The Cumbrians took the lead when Gillesphey’s cross was flicked on by Shaun Miller and Jason Kennedy bundled the ball goalwards, with Stanley defender Omar Beckles getting the final touch.

However, the 10 men replied immediately when Shay McCartan’s 20-yard free-kick sailed into the top corner for his first goal of the season.

Nathan Delfouneso stepped off the bench to score in added time and snatch a 2-2 draw for Blackpool against Yeovil.

Delfouneso, in his first match back with the Tangerines after rejoining from Swindon, tapped home from close range deep into stoppage time.

Yeovil took the lead after 34 minutes through Francois Zoko, but Delfouneso crossed for Kelvin Mellor to tap home at the far post.

Darren Ward slotted Yeovil ahead from 12 yards, before Delfouneso grabbed a late point.
