JUST what sort of grandstanding egotist would pretend to have lost loved ones in the horror of Hillsborough?

Step forward Ukip leader and shameless self-publicist, Paul Nuttall, whose website falsely claimed he lost “close personal friends” in the disaster that claimed the lives of 96 Liverpool fans in 1989.

Nuttall blamed his press officer for the error and she fell on her sword, saying it was all her fault.

Whatever the truth, this is an unsavoury episode and an insult to those who died and those who continue to mourn them.
