Time to soak up the sun as summer arrives early

- By John Paul Breslin jbreslin@sundaypost.com

SUN WORSHIPERS are in for more glorious weather after the country enjoyed the hottest day of the year so far.

Families made the most of the balmy conditions yesterday as temperatures reached 19ºC in some parts.

And the good times aren’t over yet as today is tipped to be another cracker.

While parts of Scotland may get some cloud, the majority of Brits are set to enjoy another day of dry and warm weather.

The pleasant spell may even last until tomorrow – making the transition back to work that bit easier.

Temperatures in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, soared to 19ºC – making it the place that has recorded the highest temperature in Britain so far this year.

It came as a welcome surprise after most of Scotland was covered in snow on Tuesday.

It also meant Scotland was warmer than the sunshine destination of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, which was only 17ºC.

Many, like little Milly Lawrie, made the most of the sunny weather by getting out and about. The five-yearold, from Paisley, needed her sunglasses as she played among a sea of daffodils at Pollok Park in Glasgow yesterday.

The Met Office has even predicted that the mercury in parts of southern England could reach the low 20s on Wednesday.

In comparison, Ibiza will only reach 18ºC on the same day.

Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: “We’re going to see some of the warmest days of the year.”

Tomorrow will become cloudier but temperatures should remain pleasant, before climbing to the low 20s on Wednesday in some parts.

Mr Wilson said: “It’s going to be pleasant and much better than some of the weather we’ve seen recently.”

Following the haywire weather, bookmakers are now offering odds on a white Easter.

McBookie.com says it’s 5/2 for a flake to fall at a Met Office station over next month’s Easter weekend.
