Smash-and-grab act by Montrose

-

ARBROATH 0 MONTROSE 1

MONTROSE produced a smash-and-grab act to snatch the three points at Gayfield.

Gary Fraser hit the back of the net in the 19th minute but the Montrose striker was ruled offside.

Bobby Linn then sent a tantalising ball across the face of the visitors’ goal which narrowly eluded Steven Doris.

Arbroath continued to press and Omar Kader unleashed a rasping shot which Allan Fleming did well to palm behind for a corner.

Kader then teed up an opportunity for Ryan McCord but the Lichties midfielder scuffed his shot tamely wide.

The hosts continued to enjoy the bulk of possession in the second period.

A Doris volley was well saved by Fleming then a Linn effort was deflected wide. Former Arbroath keeper Fleming then pulled off another wonderful diving save to deny Doris.

But the Gable Endies stunned the home side five minutes from the end when Smith sprung the offside trap and crossed for Fraser to clip the ball over Gomes for what proved to be the winner.

FORFAR 2 BERWICK 3

FORFAR remain top of the table thanks only to promotion rivals Arbroath’s loss.

A last-minute penalty miss prevented the Loons’ rescuing a point.

Berwick took the lead after just seven minutes, Pat Scullion heading into the bottom corner.

On the stroke of half-time, Danny Denholm finally got Forfar back on level terms, stooping between two defenders to head home.

In the 73rd minute, Berwick broke upfield and Aaron Murrell swept home from inside the six-yard box.

Three minutes later, Greg Rutherford made it 3-1.

Forfar grabbed a potential lifeline with seven minutes left when Aiden Malone was fouled in the box and Cox converted the penalty.

But Cox quickly went from saint to sinner as he saw his stoppage-time spot-kick — following a Kevin McKinlay handball — saved by Brennan.

EDINBURGH CITY 3 ELGIN 0

EDINBURGH City claimed a comfortable home win.

Dougie Gair opened the scoring in the 37th minute, slotting home from close range.

The 32-year-old then made sure of all three points after slotting home a penalty three minutes into the second half, David Brownlie penalised for handling in the area.

Jordan Caddow completed the scoring for City, tapping home following a long throw.

CLYDE 2 STIRLING ALBION 3

SUPER Stirling made it six wins in a row when they came from behind to beat Clyde.

Peter MacDonald volleyed Clyde in front after 25 minutes.

Stirling drew level seven minutes into the second half through Darren Smith.

Clyde moved back into the lead 10 minutes later when David Gormley drilled in from the spot, only for Ross Kavanagh to level matters.

Smith looped a header over Gibson for Stirling’s winner.

ANNAN 1 COWDENBEATH 0

IN the 15th minute, Annan’s Rabin Omar was fouled in the box but Peter Weatherson’s spot-kick was saved by Jamie Sneddon.

Then, two minutes after the interval, it was Cowdenbeath’s chance with a penalty conceded by Gavin Skelton but Fraser Mullen’s shot was saved by keeper Blair Currie.

Aiden Smith grabbed the winner in the 76th minute.
