Don’t worry, be happy ...

- By Rosie O’ Neill

NO one feels happy all of the time. We all have our ups and downs. When stress strikes, it’s important to remind yourself what’s important. Our sister publication, No. 1 magazine, has five tips towards a happier you.

Learn to say no

SAYING yes to everything can stress you out and lead to you feeling overwhelmed. It also gives you less time to address your own priorities. You must learn to say “no” without feeling bad about it. Before you commit yourself to anything or anyone, ask yourself: does this serve my highest good? If the answer is no, then say no!

Take care of your body

EXERCISE is great for your mind as well as your health. It boosts your mood and increases your energy, making you happier. Other ways of boosting your mood include eating healthily, switching off technology and making sure you get enough sleep. Aim to use the stairs instead of the escalator or walk to work instead of driving or taking the bus – anything that gets you active. Remember to drink plenty of water – two litres a day can help keep you hydrated and eliminate toxins.

Keep good company

TO be happy, you need great people around you. Only spend time with friends who make you feel good. At weekends, make plans to see friends who you know you can have fun with and who you can confide in. A problem halved is a problem solved.

Forgiveness is key

WHEN someone has hurt you, it’s important to let go. When you hold on to anger, it will occupy a space inside of you, preventing you from feeling truly happy and fulfilled. Stop being stubborn and forgive anyone who has done you wrong. You are doing it for your own happiness.

Set new goals

WHEN you achieve your aims, you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something. The goals you set must be challenging enough to excite you, but also achievable. Aim to think of a goal and take one step further to get it started, then make a list of how you will achieve it. You never know – you might end up surprising yourself!
