Doris hat-trick as Lichties go nap

-

Arbroath’s Ryan McCord put them into the lead in two minutes with a freekick, then Steven Swinglehurst was sent for an early bath for violent conduct.

McCord almost got a second in 13 minutes with a long-range shot.

Two minutes later, Peter Weatherson hit the equaliser from 10 yards. Annan then shocked the visitors when Jordan Stewart headed a cross into the net in 24 minutes to put them ahead.

Doris headed home the equaliser three minutes before the turn.

The striker fired his side into a 3-2 lead on the hour and Bryan Punty netted with a shot in the 74th minute.

Five minutes later, his 30-yarder went narrowly past.

In stoppage time, Doris completed his hat-trick with a header.

ELGIN CITY 2 BERWICK 2

BERWICK striker Aaron Murrell was denied a goal by a brilliant Archie Macphee tackle after he rounded the keeper, while visiting keeper Sean Brennan pulled off a fine double save from Chris McLeish and Jamie Reid.

The game exploded into life in the final four minutes of the first half with three goals being scored.

Berwick notched the first two, with Greg Rutherford’s fine header from a David Verlaque cross making it 1-0, before Aaron Murrell turned and fired home less than a minute later.

Elgin’s response was quick, as they won a free-kick on the edge of the box and Thomas Reilly curled home.

The home side dominated after the break but McLeish was again denied by Brennan after going clean through on the hour.

City drew level eight minutes from time when Steve Notman was penalised for handball inside his own box and Cameron slotted in his 15th of the season from the spot.

STIRLING ALBION 0 FORFAR 3

LEADERS Forfar ended their sevengame winless run in style to stay a point clear of Arbroath, who they face in a massive local derby at Station Park next week.

Jim Lister broke the deadlock from close in on 13 minutes after being picked out by Gavin Swankie, then Danny Denholm hit No. 2 when he found the corner with a low drive from the edge of the box in 26 minutes.

Denholm sealed the points 11 minutes after the interval when he was left unmarked to bundle the ball past Chris Smith after a free kick had been nodded back across goal.

Grant Adam denied Darren Smith in a rare Albion attack.

Swankie almost scored a fourth late on but hit the bar.

COWDENBEATH 1 CLYDE 0

SHAMED ex-internationalist David Goodwillie made his debut for Clyde as a second-half substitute at Cowdenbeath.

Clyde’s Peter Macdonald had a chance in five minutes but Gerry McLauchlan’s tackle was good.

Cowdenbeath’s Kris Renton and David Syme then missed chances.

On 52 minutes, Dale Carrick got clean through and he blasted a 14-yard shot wide of Gourlay.

With Goodwillie on after 67 minutes, Clyde came back at Cowden but the hosts held out.

MONTROSE 3 EDINBURGH 0

MONTROSE looked lively from the start but took 43 minutes to score when leftback Andrew Steeves sent a screamer high past keeper Calum Antell.

The hosts made it 2-0 in 53 minutes as Paul Watson spotted Antell off his line and hit the ball over the stranded keeper from inside his own half.

It was 3-0 on 71 minutes, Cammy Ballantyne crossing for Chris Templeman to head home.

Montrose were refused a spot-kick late on when Kerr Hay went tumbling in the box.
