Disabilities no barrier for rocker Andrew

-

A YOUNG Scots deaf/blind teenager is beating up a storm after becoming a talented drummer.

Andrew Pettigrew lost his sight at age six and became deaf at 10.

But the music-loving kid refused to allow this to deter him from becoming a drummer.

The 15-year-old’s dreamed of playing with a heavy metal band on stage.

And that wish came true when Airbourne, an Australian rock band, asked him to join them at a gig in Glasgow.

They invited him to jam with them on stage at the Barrowlands.

Looking and sounding every inch a rock star he performed so well the audience believed he was the band’s regular drummer.

Andrew, from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, said: “It was the best moment of my life. I might be blind and deaf but that is not going to stop me trying to become a brilliant drummer. I have loved music ever since I can remember.”

His mum Josephine, 50, said: “Andrew has faced losing his sight and hearing with huge courage.

“Andrew is an inspiration to others and rock music has kept him going through his darkest hours. He’s never let being deaf/ blind ever get in his way.”
