Scan legacy for boxer ‘Iron’ Mike

-

FRIENDS and family of ‘Iron’ Mike Towell hope to buy a scanner to give boxers early warning of bleeding on the brain.

The tragic fighter died after collapsing in the ring last September aged only 25.

Now pals from his former club – the 1314 in Stirling – have joined mum Tracey and partner Chloe Ross in a bid to buy one of the handheld gadgets.

Organiser Ryan Coyle said: “Scanners are £13,000 each but if we can get the cash together for just one, it will go some way to maybe avoiding another tragedy in the future. That would be a fitting legacy for Iron Mike.”

Dundee dad-of-one Mike suffered from headaches before his fateful Glasgow bout but had put them down to stress.
