It’s simple – don’t waste our money
IN recent weeks The Sunday Post has told you of Scottish councillors spending £700,000 jetting off on foreign trips.
That’s your money they flew away with.
We also revealed that a woman had her Motability car withdrawn to save £8000, then authorities suggested she use taxis instead – at a cost of £65,000 over three years.
That is your money that was potentially being driven away.
This week we report that almost £1 million was spent on fire engines that couldn’t go round corners, then the vehicles were sold for £15,000.
Again, that’s your money that went up in smoke.
When will this tomfoolery end?
One of the excuses trotted out in the fire engines story was that the £1 million was spent by a “legacy service”.
That doesn’t make any difference – it is still our money.
The money taken in tax from ordinary people’s wage packets cannot be spent in such a cavalier fashion, so every person who is in a position to spend money from the public purse has to act with the utmost responsibility.
We have council and national elections coming up. This is a good time for those in charge of spending to be aware that wasting our money is obscene.
