Ehiogu tragedy is a timely reminderforus all

-

UGO EHIOGU’S untimely death was a tragedy.

When I heard the news on Friday morning, I was absolutely stunned.

Former Rangers star Ugo (left) was a super-fit guy, a footballer turned coach, who looked after himself throughout his life.

How on earth could he have suffered attack?

It didn’t make any sense to me at the time. It also seemed enormously unfair.

I couldn’t help but take a look at myself as I began to get my head around the news.

I’d be the first to admit I don’t live the healthiest

a

heart lifestyle, yet here I am.

It really makes you think – death could happen to any of us at any moment.

That’s something we’re all aware of at the back of our minds.

But in the context of professional sport, where people are at the peak of physical fitness, it seems all the more shocking.

For me, it’s another reminder that sporting bodies should be screening for heart problems on a regular basis.

As for the rest of us, we should do our best to take care of ourselves and each other – and be thankful for every day we are here.
