Eventful first shift for teen swim hero

-

IT’S not unreasonable to expect to ease yourself into your new job.

But a 15-year-old had an eventful start to his summer job at a lifeguard at a swimming pool in Ohio last week. He’d been on duty for less than 20 minutes when he heard a cry for help.

A four-year-old boy had accidentally moved into the deep end of the pool when he started struggling to keep his head above water.

Jack Viglianco sprung into action and rescued the child from certain death.

“I was realising that I just saved a kid’s life,” Jack said. “And that is something not many other people can say. Nothing my friends have ever said!”

The young lifeguard quickly called the most important woman in his life – his mum.

“I realised, ‘oh shoot! I just saved this kid’s life,’ so I called my mom,” he said.
