Conor’s ‘miracle’ mix put him alongside Calvin
LAST Christmas, Conor Donaghey, from Angus, was delighted when he received a gift of a music mixing deck.
The 19-year-old has been mad about playing and making music ever since he received a little keyboard from Santa when he was just three years old.
Conor, a student at Perth College, quickly mastered the workings of the console and began to produce remixes of chart hits, as well as writing new music, at home.
He was pleased when his mates enjoyed the tunes – and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to play them at Industry, a Dundee nightclub.
But when a friend suggested he send one of the tracks off to a small record company he’d heard of, Conor laughed, though thought it might be interesting to see any feedback they gave.
When the company got back to him to inquire if they could release it, Conor was delighted and agreed straight away.
Having that on his CV, Conor considered, could only help him pursue a career in the music industry.
Four weeks later, after all the necessary contracts had been signed and the track became available, Conor was proud to see his club remix I Need A Miracle, available on music streaming sites iTunes and Spotify.
But even better was to come.
Although he’s always dreamed of being up there with the likes of Calvin Harris and David Guetta, Conor was amazed when, last week, record company bosses contacted him to say the tune was doing rather well.
More precisely, Conor’s first ever release had romped up to No. 38 in the European DJ download charts, alongside established music stars such as Bruno Mars, Calvin and Charlie Puth.
It also charted at 31 in the Oceanic charts and 47 in Africa.
Not bad for a mix that was created in an Angus bedroom!
Now, while Conor realises he’ll have to work hard to make it in the tough world of music, he can’t help but hope that this Christmas, his favourite gift might be a Top 10 UK hit!
