Wes has got used to the pressure

WES FODERINGHAM admits that Rangers’ Europa League defeat at the hands of Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn still hurts.

But the goalie hopes they can use the experience in a positive way.

The Light Blues made nine signings this summer, and it sometimes takes players time to get the right mind-set to play for the club.

Foderingham, however, says the new players are in no doubt that they have to hit the ground running, starting today at Motherwell.

“It takes some getting used to the intensity of playing for a club like Rangers,” he said.

“For a lot of the foreign boys coming in, they’ve not been expected to win every game with their previous teams. But here you’re expected to win every game and win well.

“When we lost in Luxembourg, I think the reaction of the fans it was a shock to some of the boys.

“It was a poor, poor result and one we’re all ashamed of. We won’t be looking to do that again.

“I’m used to the pressure of playing for Rangers now and enjoy it.

“It’s important we get off to a good start today and I’m sure that’s what we’ll do.

“Starting with a draw against Hamilton last year didn’t really set the tone for the season.

“This is the best football club to be at when you’re winning, so we need to make sure we win more often than not.”

Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha has still to convince everyone that he’s the man to take Rangers forward.

His keeper says people maybe expected too much, too soon from the Portuguese coach.

He went on: “I’m sure it’s a bit frustrating for him. He knows the ideas he wants to get across, but it’s difficult when it’s a new group and a lot different to the previous regime.

“It’s taken a bit of time, but we’re getting there now. There’s a bit more of a smile on his face, and hopefully we can do the same for the fans.”

The 26-year-old is looking forward to having the experienced figure of Portugal star Bruno Alves playing in front of him this season.

He said: “He’s more cool and calm than I thought he’d be. You can see that from his performances. The boys pick up and feed off that.

“He’s a dominant force in the air and on the deck, he’s really good as well. He can see a pass.”
