Four straight wins and Stirling go top

-

Darren Smith fired Dave Mackay’s men in front after 23 minutes when he smashed a stunning shot into the top corner from 18 yards after great work by Ross Kavanagh created the opening.

Smith got his and Albion’s second in 35 minutes when he beat on-loan Rangers keeper Robby McCrorie with a cool finish after being played in by Peter MacDonald.

He later passed up two good chances with headers, which could have completed his hat-trick.

Berwick failed to take a couple of decent opportunities at the start of the second half, and the game was over in 54 minutes when Kavanagh prodded the ball home at the third attempt.

The home side’s fourth goal arrived 12 minutes from time and was credited to Albion defender Ross Smith but it appeared to be Berwick’s Oliver Fleming who headed the ball into his own net under pressure from Smith.

PETERHEAD 3 ELGIN CITY 0

ELGIN threatened early on as John Paul McGovern’s cross to the near post was headed just wide by the diving Brian Cameron.

Peterhead responded with a free-kick after 12 minutes. Willie Gibson saw his weaving run brought to an abrupt halt 20 yards out but Rory McAllister sent his shot high over.

Moments later, McAllister had a shot which took a deflection saved low by Mark Watters in the City goal.

The Blue Toon went in front on 23 minutes, with McAllister pouncing on a moment of slackness from Stephen Bronski in the box. The striker cut inside and hit a low drive to give the home side the lead.

A minute later, McAllister could have scored again, lobbing the ball over the head of the onrushing Watters but the ball drifted wide.

Just on half-time, McAllister was pulled back and a penalty awarded, from which McAllister notched his second.

After 58 minutes, Watters went to clear the ball upfield, but Allan Smith blocked it, then rounded the City custodian before netting.

Peterhead’s Nicky Reilly was redcarded for a high tackle on Thomas Reilly on 77 minutes.

CLYDE 2 ANNAN ATHLETIC 1

ANNAN started well with their shooton-sight policy keeping Bully Wee keeper Blair Currie on his toes.

Clyde gradually forced their way into contention and, on 33 minutes, they scored when Barry Cuddihy hit a 20-yarder into the bottom corner of the net.

Clyde made it 2-0 just after the hour when substitute Smart Osalodor fired low into the left corner.

Annan pulled one back on 76 minutes when Rabin Omar headed firmly into the net.

MONTROSE 1 STENHOUSEMUIR 1

MONTROSE dictated the first half, which ended goalless.

Stenny claimed a goal on 47 minutes when Harry Paton’s hook shot hit the underside of the bar, but play was waved on.

Stenhousemuir took the lead on 71 minutes as Nathan Blockley’s cross was nodded home by Mark McGuigan.

Montrose equalised in 79 minutes when Graham Webster netted.

COWDENBEATH 1 EDINBURGH C 0

COWDENBEATH had the better early play and Cammy Muirhead twice went close from crosses.

At the other end, Ashley Grimes had a chance 10 yards out but was denied by David Syme’s timely tackle.

On 29 minutes, Cowden’s Ben Stirling fired into the net from six yards.

City started the second half well. Gareth Rodger sent a header wide and Mark Laird’s shot tested Joe McGovern.
