Scott is aiming to be Bain of Celtic’s lives

SCOTT BAIN insists Dundee are ready to take “the hard way” to Hampden after landing Celtic in the Betfred Cup quarter-finals.

The Dark Blues dumped deadly rivals Dundee United in midweek to secure their passage to the last eight.

The celebrations were still in full swing when the draw paired them with Brendan Rodgers’ “Invincibles”.

Dundee keeper Bain knows he’s in for a busy night when the game rolls around.

But buoyed by an enthralling derby victory, he insists The Dee can pull off a shock.

“It’s a home game, and if we play to our capabilities, then we can definitely give Celtic a game,” said Bain.

“We know how good a team they are. But if we can put together a run of games before the tie comes around and get our confidence high – get the fans in again – then you never know.

“Celtic are what they are – the best team in the league by a fair distance.

“But if you don’t play them now, when are you going to play them?

“I think we would have liked a lesser team at home as the next step to get to Hampden. If we have to do it the hard way, however, then we’ll do it the hard way.

“For now, I think we need to enjoy the last round. It’s always good to win a derby.”

Bain endured a testy relationship with United fans behind his goal in the second half of Wednesday’s Dens Park showdown.

The Dee stopper celebrated Paul McGowan’s winner wildly, drawing a furious reaction from the away support.

He insisted he took it all as banter – then he dished even more out in return.

“I’m always getting stick, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!” he said.

“If they can give it out and can take it back, then that’s fine by me.

“I’ve played them six times now, and all they’ve done is won an extra point in a penalty shoot-out.

“I’ve never been beaten by them in a proper competitive game.

“I think I just silenced them a wee bit more on Wednesday night. They can now enjoy their season down in the Championship!”

He added: “I’ve played in a few of these games now, and it doesn’t matter how you win – you just need to win.

“But we were outstanding. To a man, we were better than them all over the pitch.

“We were hungrier, we had more desire, we were fitter, we were stronger and we wanted it more.”
