Knock years off your skin
WE can’t stop the clock, or rewind it, but when it comes to ageing we can certainly slow it down. Our sister publication, No. 1 Magazine, helps you find a skincare regime to suit your age.
Teens to mid-20s
USING a medium-to-high sun protection factor (SPF) is one of the best things you can do. Many foundations contain an SPF, but it’s worth being extra-cautious. If your face base doesn’t contain an SPF, wear one underneath.
Mid-20s to mid-30s
IN your thirties, it can take longer for new skin cells to reach the surface, which contributes to it appearing duller and less radiant. The production of collagen – which strengthens skin – also slows down. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Good exfoliation and moisturising routines are vital.
Mid-30s to mid-40s
YOUR body gets rid of toxins through lymphatic drainage, and when this decreases in speed the elastic fibres supporting your lymph glands also begin to break down. This can cause puffiness around your eyes and cheeks. It’s time to start using a richer sunscreen and antioxidant to safeguard collagen. Opt for thicker, creamier versions with added hydration to protect your skin.
Mid-40s to mid-50s
YOUR skin now becomes a lot more dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and use a moisturiser suited to your skin type. Also be sure to opt for a non-drying cleanser. A night cream will work wonders on your skin overnight.
55 and over
MAINTAINING a hydrating, sun-protective and healthy skincare routine will help improve the appearance of your skin in your mid-fifties and beyond. You may find yourself suffering more from dark spots which are the result of overproduction of melanin, or skin pigment. Try using a dark spot corrector.
