BRECHIN CITY 1 Graham (72) FALKIRK 1 Harris (15)

-

FALKIRK boss Peter Houston slammed his shot-shy side as they were held to a draw at Brechin, leaving them still looking for their first league win of the season.

Houston said: “We should have had the game buried. We totally dominated the first half, but in the second we were abysmal.

“We stopped passing the ball and started to go long and it was clear that this was a game in which a one-goal lead was not enough.

“We had two great chances just before half-time and had to score them. That is why we are still looking for our first victory.

“In the second half we were lacklustre. There was a fear in our play at 1-0 and we have to be mentally stronger.”

Brechin went close in seven minutes when a curling shot from Kalvin Orsi struck the bar.

Falkirk opened the scoring in 15 minutes when Alex Harris exchanged passes with Rory Loy and fired home a low shot.

Two minutes from the break, Nathan Austin ran in on goal and shot wide then, right on half-time, Harris squandered a chance when he put the ball wide with just the keeper to beat.

Brechin upped their game in the second half and equalised in 72 minutes. A spell of pressure ended when the ball was knocked down for Finn Graham to score from close range.

Falkirk almost regained the lead a minute from time when a shot from Craig Sibbald was turned round the post by Graeme Smith.

Two minutes into added time, Isaac Layne was clean through for Brechin but fired his shot against keeper Robbie Thomson.

Brechin boss Darren Dods said: “We always feel we have a chance playing downhill and Isaac had a great opportunity to win it for us right at the end, but the keeper pulled off a save.

“Our confidence grew against a full-time team and I feel there is more to come.”
