Make sure the eyes have it

- By Rosie O’Neill

EYE make-up can be tricky to apply. With the right approach, your eyes will look enticing. But it’s all too easy to go wrong. Our sister publication, No.1 Magazine, shows you how to avoid those make-up mishaps.

A light touch

Less is more when it comes to eyebrow make-up. When you use your eyebrow pencil, avoid an unnatural dark, harsh and heavy look. Try adding light strokes of colour with your pencil and build up gradually.

Tame the brows

Bushy brows can make your eyes look smaller. And longer, whiter hairs may overhang at the outer edges, causing lids to look droopy and making you appear older. It’s best to get your brows done regularly – every four to five weeks if you have the time. This will give the brows a shape and structure. Threading is one of the best methods we’ve found over the years.

Take a tint

There is nothing wrong with growing old gracefully and there is certainly nothing wrong with grey brows. However, they do tend to blend in with your skin, making you look older. Grey or white brows can cause your eyebrows to fade into nothing, losing the definition they bring to your face. To avoid this, book an appointment to get your eyebrows tinted to get rid of any unwanted white or grey hairs.

All about the base

Plucking your eyebrows into a tadpole shape is a big no-no. Any odd shape can make you look surprised and distract from your eyes. Are you trying to grow eyebrow hairs back? An important tip is to buy some conditioning serum that is meant for delicate hairs such as eyebrows and eyelashes. Once you have a good base, you can ask your salon specialist the best shape for you.

Fill in the gaps

Just like your hair, eyebrows thin the older you get. Fear not, however, as you can fill in these gaps with a brow beauty product of your choice. In recent years, eyebrow tattooing has become very popular. This involves a micro-blade pen for a natural-looking brow that lasts up to three years.
