Roy leapt from the frying pan into an inferno

-

ROY HODGSON leapt from the frying pan of being the England manager after Iceland knocked his side out of Euro 2016.

He must have thought he’d made it to safety.

Instead, 15 months later, he has finally landed back in the fire at Crystal Palace.

First things first, fair play to Roy (left), I don’t think I’ll be up for that sort of challenge at the age of 70.

He’s stepping into a job the previous incumbent was punted from after just five games.

If I get to Roy’s age, I’d rather be stepping into my baffies.

However, from Palace’s point of view, appointing Hodgson will probably work out well.

That doesn’t absolve themofwhattheydidto Frank de Boer.

They brought him in on a three-year contract in the summer, with a remit to revamp the way the Eagles play the game.

But they couldn’t hold their nerve by giving him the time needed to do just that.

In Roy Hodgson, they have opted for a safe pair of hands.

But I doubt he will be there for the long haul, whether he saves Palace or not.
