PEOPLE now prioritise their pets over themselves when it comes to insurance, research suggests.

Nearly a fifth (18%) have pet insurance, whereas only one in 10 have a critical illness policy, Zurich’s survey of more than 2000 people found.

It also found that the cost and not seeing the relevance of policies were among the main barriers to people taking out cover.
