10 New York must sees
HARBOUR VIEWS
The One World Observatory, beside the 9/11 Memorial, has the best views of the harbour and the Statue of Liberty. The first glimpse when the shutters open on the 100th floor is heart-stopping.
STATUE OF LIBERTY
9/11 MEMORIAL
The 9/11 Memorial, beneath the two giant pools bearing the names of the near-3000 who lost their lives, is so moving.
THE MET
The Metropolitan Museum is the sort of place that has an entire reclaimed Egyptian temple in one tiny corner. You can lose yourself here for hours.
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
The Met is at the east side of Central Park, the west having the equally marvellous American Museum of Natural History which can also be pretty much a full-day joy.
THE EMPIRE STATE
The Empire State Building has to be scaled for its place in history, but the best views OF it and Central Park is from Top Of The Rock in Rockefeller Plaza.
TIMES SQUARE
The endless neon buzz of Times Square in Midtown is a full-on feast of colour and noise. Fabulous.
INTREPID MUSEUM
The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on board the massive Second World War aircraft carrier is another great day out.
CIRCLE LINE LANDMARKS
Take the two-hour Circle Line Landmark and Brooklyn sailing to see the best of Manhattan, the Harbour and the Brooklyn shoreline.
TIFFANY’S
Even if you only want to browse you’ll find yourself welcomed like a wealthy regular at super-classy Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue.
