Wadd a finish! Kerr’s late header shatters Hearts

- By Ron Scott sport@sundaypost.com

Dundee snatched an unlikely victory deep in injury time in this roller-coaster of a game.

For long spells in the second half the Dark Blues were hanging on for a point after allowing Hearts back into the game following a dreadful short pass-back from Sofien Moussa.

However, Kerr Waddell emulated his first goal scored on the stroke of half-time with another bullet header to claim all three points at the death.

No wonder Hearts’ manager Craig Levein said afterwards: “Always expect the unexpected.

“To lose the way we did was tragic, especially with the amount of effort we put in. It was mind-blowing.

“We were excellent in the second-half and should have had the game dead and buried. Then we shoot ourselves in the foot.”

Levein explained: “We practice things time after time on the training ground then it all goes out the window when you lose two goals from corners.

“It’s an absolute basic to pick up opponents at corners.

“Losing Aaron Hughes early with a calf injury didn’t help and we were disjointed until we changed our shape for the second half.

“The absolute worst we should have got was a point.”

When Kevin Holt swung over a corner from the left Waddell was completely unmarked and Jon McLaughlin had no chance of keeping out his powerful header.

Then in the third of five added minutes Waddell again rose alone to power home another left-wing corner, this time from Paul McGowan.

“Kerr has natural aggression and raw power in the air in abundance,” his manager Neil McCann emphasised.

“Set pieces have cost us dearly this season so I was delighted our two goals came from corners. We’ve been working hard on set-pieces in both boxes in training.

“Kerr and Jack Hendry are both doing well for us in defence. If they keep playing like this they’ll be knocking on the door for Scotland Under 21 recognition soon.

“We were brave in the first-half working the ball from the back. I could hear the fans behind me getting
