Slovenia are out for revenge, Scots warned

- By Adam Lanigan SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COm

Andraz Sporar insists a bit of revenge and a large dose of national pride will drive Slovenia on this evening.

The revenge comes from the 1-0 defeat they suffered at Hampden back in March which smashed their unbeaten record.

And with their qualification hopes all but over after the injury-time defeat to England at Wembley, Slovenia don’t want their campaign to end with a whimper.

The Tartan Army is desperate to see Gordon Strachan’s men claim the points and a spot in the play-offs.

But Sporar, who is currently on loan at German Second Division side Arminia Bielefeld from FC Basel, doesn’t want this to be a walk in the park for Scotland.

“Our mentality must be that we are playing at home in front of our fans and our people, and they deserve that we end this campaign with victory,” he said.

“We have to show pride to our supporters. Now we have one final game to do that.

“It was not a good feeling in the Wembley dressing room after the match, so we must give something back.

“Technically, we have a small chance to go through. But we must be really, really lucky to get to Russia. We just have to win and hope.

“And there is the chance of revenge, too. We’re playing at home, so we have to be professional.”

Scotland may have beaten Slovenia at Hampden, but England were lucky to escape with a 0-0 draw in Ljubljana 12 months ago, so this is no forgone conclusion.

“We have shown we are a good team,” said Sporar.

“But we have made a few mistakes like losing in Slovakia and only drawing in Lithuania. That made it difficult for us to search for points at Wembley.”
