Take a walk down any street in any town these days and you’re sure to come across men with bushier beards than Santa Claus.

You won’t see such a sight in the country of Tajikistan, where authorities have banned beards.

So when two bearded actors were spotted walking down the street in the town of Konibodom by police, they were immediately detained.

Hundreds of thousands of men have already been arrested in the beard crackdown, which comes from a crackdown against religious extremism.

When the pair explained they were actors in town to perform a play, they were granted temporary permits allowing them to sport their facial hair in public. It was a close shave (or not!) for the men.
