“I’m still not in the best condition because I had injuries at the start of the season that hindered my developmen­t and fitness.

“Right now, I just need 10 or 15 games in a row to feel strong for the whole 90 minutes and to start playing my best football.

“It’s not my desire just to be in the comfort zone at a top club.

“I love playing football and that drives me to be the best player I can be. The money, that’s secondary. That comes when it comes.

“At the moment, I want to develop football skills and nights like Friday just make me want to get to the next level because the feeling you get out on that pitch, in front of 80,000 people, is fantastic.

“My mindset before the game was just to enjoy it and take it in because it’s a night I will never forget.

“If we had won, then it would have been better. But I’m really pleased with how it went and hope I can play again against Brazil on Tuesday.

“I just tried to enjoy it, play my football and do what I have done to get into the England squad, which is what Roy Hodgson, my manager at Palace, told me to do.

“I always try to be confident on the ball and have no fear when going out on the pitch.

“That’s one thing young players need to have in their game to develop.”
