Is putting up decorations in November a true celebration

-

I think it’s totally over the top. The amount of electricity wasted on those displays is obscene. Having Christmas for months is a complete travesty of what it should stand for.

– Liz Kelly, Glasgow. It’s not over the top. We need some brightness and happiness in life and what better time is there?

– Maurice Benham, by email. decorated like this but it’s best to wait until December.

– Mary Rae, Dundee. There is an entire cul-de-sac near us in Stonehaven where all residents take part in a massive display. This is for charity, which is wonderful!

– Judi Martin, Aberdeen. I think subtle and elegant is the way to go. When we were young, we went to bed on Christmas Eve and the tree and decorations magically appeared on Christmas morning!

– Joan Fordyce, Forfar. It’s over the top and has little to do with the true meaning of Christmas.

– Ian Roxburgh, Kilmaur. I love Christmas but I don’t think there is any need for decorations to

go up before the start of Advent.

– Lorna Smith, Bradford. I like seeing decorations at Christmas, not in the middle of November! – Steven Smith, by

email. Christmas is for the kids and seeing a house all decorated and lit up is part of the excitement. But not before December 1. Anything

sooner spoils the magic.

– Susan Ireland, Kendal. If that’s what they want then good on them. I hope the neighbours have black-out curtains!

– Irene Thomson, Perth. It’s lovely to drive round the streets looking at people’s lights. It brightens up the dark nights and is just a bit of fun. – Dawn Hume,

Galashiels.
