Di Resta to make his 24-hour race debut at Le Mans
West Lothian’s ex-formula One driver Paul di Resta has set his sights on winning at Le Mans, after announcing that he will make his debut in the classic 24- hour race in June.
The 31- year- old has already made his mark for the United Motorsports team this season, finishing fourth in the Daytona 24 Hours and fifth in the Sebring 12 Hours in their Ligier sportscar.
The 2010 DTM champion will be partnered at Le Mans by co- drivers Phil Hanson and Felipe Albuquerque.
“It’s exciting news to be continuing the partnership with United and undertaking the Le Mans 24 Hours,” said di Resta.
“It’s a race I’ve always looked at closely, and now I’m getting the chance at the right time to have a go.
“It will be good to race alongside Phil again after Sebring and I’m excited to see how partnering Filipe goes. I’ve known him a long time and he is a credit to endurance racing.
“Our task is to go there and win, and from what I’ve been told, that’s not too ambitious. We will do the best job possible to aim for that in the race.”
Team owner Zak Brown added: “I’m thrilled to have Paul join our Le Mans team. He’s done a fantastic job racing for us in America and I know he’ll continue that at Le Mans.
“He knows the car now, so all he’s got to learn is the circuit, which I’m confident he’ll do quickly.”
