Tommy wants to keep George at Mcdiarmid

-

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has admitted he would love to tie up a deal to keep on-loan winger George Williams beyond this season.

The Wales international has been in impressive form for Saints since joining on loan from Fulham in January.

The 22- year- old is out of contract at Craven Cottage at the end of the season and Wright has already told Williams he wants him to stay north of the border on a permanent deal.

He said: “He’s a bright spark. “He’s coming to the end of his contract and he knows he’s playing for his future, wherever that may be.

“If he keeps his form up I’d love to keep him and he knows that.

“He’s someone that gives us something different. He receives the ball really well and goes past people very quickly.

“He probably doesn’t look quick, but he is and he covers the ground really well. He’s an intelligent footballer and someone with real quality.”

■ Queen’s Park president Alan Hutchison has stood firm to the club’s “no comment” approach over the sale of the 115- year- old National Stadium to the SFA.

Recent reports claimed the League 1 Spiders had agreed to the sale of the 52,000- capacity stadium to the SFA, ahead of the 20- year rental agreement between the parties ending in 2020.

An outline proposal was discussed with the members of Scotland’s oldest club in February.

The deal would see Hampden move ahead of Edinburgh’s Murrayfield in the search for a new home for glamour international and cup ties. However, the future of Queen’s will be on the line if the SFA move to the home of rugby.

They will be due to pay back £12m of lottery funding associated with the redevelopment of the ground in 2000 as well as £ 4m due to debenture holders, who have access to tickets for the main events at the ground.

Despite, or perhaps because of, this backdrop, Hutchison is not willing to break ranks ahead of a meeting this Wednesday with the SFA.

Hutchison said: “We are aware of the reports, however we have nothing to say at the moment.

“Any discussions are subject to the strictest degree of confidentiality and it would therefore be inappropriate for myself or anyone connected with Queen’s Park to comment.”
