Photographer’s scenic legacy for his fellow cancer patients
Photographer Steve Barnes is leaving behind an incredible legacy to inspire other cancer patients.
The brave 41-year-old from Arbroath has had to accept that treatment is no longer keeping the disease at bay.
But the tattoo artist hopes his stunning images of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes, which are to be displayed in the cancer unit at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, will inspire other patients along the road to recovery. Steve took up hillwalking after battling cancer for 11 years, taking his camera with him every time he bagged a Munro.
He even climbed Ben Nevis a year ago, despite cancer returning to his lungs, liver and bowel, and now his lymph nodes.
He said: “Going exploring and adventuring has become an obsession for me.
“Walking up hills, to waterfalls, lochs, castles and rivers keeps me going.”
The generous outdoors enthusiast has raised more than £8000 for charity, even auctioning tattoo space on his own body to raise awareness.
“The photos fill my creative void from my tattoo artist days.
“They’re also a way to make memories.
“These images will hopefully help other people’s memories of hospital be better than mine.
“My mum Pamela will be particularly proud they will be there to help others.”
