It’s light, airy and modern, despite being in an old building. Our party is split on the decor. Some are quite taken with the cork board panels. Others think it looks life a half-finished DIY project.
SERVICE
This is where a potentially great restaurant fell down. Maybe they are having an off day, or it’s teething problems – they’ve not long moved into this location – but it’s slow, sometimes disorganised and at times a little chaotic. The menu is great. There’s a heavy Kiwi influence as well as Scottish favourites. It’s a winning combination. There’s a good selection of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, as well as a great weekend brunch menu. If you’ve never had the Kiwi classic mince on toast – chipotle mince topped with a poached egg and hollandaise – or cayenne-spiced calamari, you know where to go.
TASTE
Our party orders the Bach curry – a Sri Lankan-inspired dish – Triple H and Son of the Bach, which is basically a huge fry-up. The Triple H is smoked ham hough, fried potato and mustard with poached egg and hollandaise. And they’re all great. Filling, tasty and full of flavour.
PRICE
Our bill is almost £35 for three. It’s around average for a restaurant in the area. A burger with all the trimmings is £10.50 and French toast is £7.50. It’s lively and noisy, packed with a good number of students and office workers and a couple of families with children. It’s that Kiwi-influenced menu. It’s really unusual and there are so many lovely-sounding choices on the menu. Everything is freshly-made on the premises, too, right down to the sausages.
TOILETS
Clean and we don’t have any complaints.

Great menu, lovely food – just sort out the niggles with service. 15/20
