Accrington’s automatic promotion bid is on hold until Tuesday after they were held to a 1-1 draw by fifth-placed Exeter.

Table topping Stanley needed a win over the Grecians to secure promotion to the third tier of English football for the first time in their history, but a draw means all the focus is now on their home game with Yeovil.

Former Stanley loanee Jayden Stockley fired Exeter ahead after 21 minutes.

Kayden Jackson equalised after 38 minutes with a solo goal, getting the ball on the edge of the area from Mark Hughes and driving the ball home – his 15th goal of the season.

Morecambe picked up their 17th draw of the season as they drew 1-1 with Carlisle at the Globe Arena.

Jim Bentley’s side had to come from behind to seal the point after Callum Lang scored his 10th goal of the season to level after Jamie Devitt’s superb free-kick.

Devitt curled a superb effort into the top corner to hand Carlisle the lead, but Adam Mcgurk swung in a cross from the right and Lang nipped in between two defenders to head past Jack Bonham.

The home side almost snatched the points at the death when Aaron Wildig met Andy Fleming’s cross, but looped a header over.

Chesterfield’s survival hopes were hanging by a thread after local rivals Mansfield revived their play-off hopes with Malvind Benning on target in a 1-0 win at the Proact Stadium.

Crewe threw away a 1-0 lead, given to them by Jordan Bowery, to lose 3-1 at Luton, while Lincoln suffered a Checkatrade Trophy hangover as they lost 1-0 at Port Vale.
