West Brom win Cyrille Regis Memorial Trophy

-

West Brom emerged victorious over Coventry in the inaugural Cyrille Regis Memorial Trophy clash.

The match was a chance for two of Regis’ former clubs to pay tribute to the muchloved former striker, who died of a heart attack in January aged just 59.

The Hawthorns had staged a memorial service following Regis’ death, but this was a rather different occasion, and an entertaining match ended in a 5- 2 victory for Championship side West Brom, who finish their pre- season unbeaten.

There was a promising home debut for young winger Harvey Barnes, on a season- long loan from Leicester, who scored twice in the opening eight minutes.

The Baggies were four up by the 40th minute thanks to another brace, this time from Hal Robson- Kanu, before summer signing Reise Allassani pulled one back for Coventry.

The second half saw two more goals, Jake Livermore netting for the Baggies and Jordon Thompson grabbing City’s second. ■ Leeds United have confirmed the signing of left- back Barry Douglas from Premier League club Wolves.

The 28- year- old Scot has signed a threeyear contract with the Yorkshire side after moving to Elland Road for an undisclosed fee.

Douglas, who has also played for Queen’ s Park, Dundee United and Lech Poznan, helped Wolves win the Sky Bet Championship last season.

He becomes Leeds’ first permanent signing of the summer, following the loan arrivals of Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker, as new boss Marcelo Bielsa shapes his squad ahead of a potential tilt at promotion.

■ Britt Assombalonga hit a hat- trick and Ashley Fletcher scored twice as Middlesbrough beat Hartlepool 5- 0 in a friendly at Victoria Park yesterday.
