Nobody does it better? A woman could, says Bond girl Gemma
Former Bond girl Gemma Arterton believes 007 is loved for his lothario ways but if a woman landed the role it would be “double standards” for her to be predatory.
The 32-year-old actress maintains that if a woman was cast as a “Jane Bond” she would like to see her be a “little more respectful” to the opposite sex.
Kent-born Arterton starred as MI6 agent Strawberry Fields alongside Daniel Craig’s Bond in 2008’s Quantum Of Solace and has since penned a short story about a “Woke Bond Woman” who spurns the spy’s advances.
She has said she would not want to see a female Bond “take advantage of a younger man.”
Asked if a woman should seize her chance to behave like a man, she said: “No, because that would be double standards.
“I know it sounds so worthy and boring, and everyone loves James Bond as a lothario, but if there was a female James Bond, I’d love it if she’d be just a little more respectful.”
Arterton’s latest film, The Escape, sees her play the part of a motherof-two battling depression.
She revealed she found it “difficult” working with the child stars and said people can feel threatened by non-maternal female characters.
She added: “If a guy says he doesn’t want kids, it’s OK, but if a woman feels that, it’s like something’s wrong with her.
“It threatens people’s idea of what a woman is, what her function is.”
