EAST KILBRIDE’S new gaffer Brian Kerr got a dream start as his side started the season in style hitting 10 goals without reply against luckless SELKIRK. Ex-stranraer and Alloa striker Craig Malcolm was the hero, hitting four goals in a one-sided match. Kerr said: “It was a very professional performance from the boys. It’s going to be a very tough league and the top five or six will be battling for the title.” Other Kilby scorers included Anton Brady, Scott Stevenson, Craig Howie, Jamie Longworth and Craig Holmes.

League newcomers KELTY HEARTS found the step-up from the East tough as they were held to a 2-2 home draw by DALBEATTIE STAR, who fought back after losing a 21st minute goal through Matthew Gay. New signing Dean Brotherstoni levelled in the 18th minute and it was Starwho went ahead with a Lewis Sloan goal in 71 minutes. But, with 12 minutes left, Scott Taylor Mackenzie hit the equaliser.

EDINBURGH UNI got a dream start against GRETNA 2008 as Stuart Mcnicholas bagged two goals in 30 seconds in the first five minutes. The home side never recovered and, on the hour mark, Absul Yusuf fired home a penalty to make sure of the points.

EDUSPORT ACADEMY got a fine 4-1 win over WHITEHALL WELFARE with three goals in the first half-hour. Jean Lucas hit the opener on 13 minutes and, two minutes later, a trialist got a second. Then, on 29 minutes, Liam Coogans scored No. 3 to give them a comfortable half-time lead. Welfare pulled one back in 72 minutes through Kyle Mitchell, but a mix-up in the home defence four minutes later saw Kyle Mitchell put through his own goal.

CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS and VALE OF LEITHEN fought out a 0-0 draw in the capital.

CUMBERNAULD COLTS edged it 2-1 away to GALA FAIRYDEAN ROVERS, with Fraser Team putting them ahead after eight minutes. Gala’s Darren Smith levelled the scores on 69 minutes, but Colts went straight up the field and Scott Davidson hit the winner.
