Star service

Minor gripe

-

As a result of recent heart surgery, I was required to attend the health centre twice a week for blood tests.

I was temporarily suspended from driving and was put in touch with Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) who provided transport.

I had never heard of this charity but it was a godsend.

The RVS is a national charity built on volunteering, giving support to those who need in our hospitals and communities.

The drivers who took me to and from the health centre were all volunteers and in the main retired men and women.

We need to learn more of this wonderful organisation as they rely on donations etc to provide this essential service.

Unlike Judy Murray I’m not in favour of raising the legal age to 21 for drinking, I would actually be in favour of lowering it to 17.

I grew up in the west of Scotland in the early 80s and among the sixth year at my high school, there were only a few I knew who didn’t drink alcohol – all girls.

If you didn’t go out to get drunk in sixth year, let alone drink, you were an oddity.

I say adults should teach kids to drink responsibly by giving them a small amount at home, educate them of the dangers of too much drink and allow them to drink a small amount of alcohol at weddings and friends’ 18th birthday parties as long as there is adult supervision.
