Lolley shines as Boro miss out on top spot

Middlesbrough lost their unbeaten home record and a chance to go top of the table when Nottingham Forest won 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro began the game in second place, however, Tony Pulis’ side never found their rhythm against a Forest outfit who climbed into the play-off places with this victory. Joe Lolley was central to it, scoring the first goal and setting up substitute Lewis Grabban to score the second, extending Forest’s unbeaten league run to six games.

A Callum Robinson double plus strikes from Tom Barkhuizen and Paul Gallagher helped Preston earn the Lancashire bragging rights with a 4-0 win against Wigan, who had Darron Gibson sent off after 56 minutes for a clumsy tackle on Ben Pearson.

Ipswich Town secured their first win of the season as Trevoh Chalobah’s’ 84th- minute header saw them edge Swansea 3-2 in a thriller at the Liberty Stadium.

The Tractor Boys fell behind to a Janoi Donacien own goal, but hit back for a half- time lead via Gwion Edwards and a Mike Van der Hoorn own goal.

Swansea equalised when Bersant Celina finished off a length-of-the-field move, but there was still time for Ipswich to steal the spoils through Chalobah.

Sheffield United moved to the top of the league with a 1- 0 victory at home to Hull City, with David Mcgoldrick’s penalty settling the game.

Aston Villa made a poor start to life after Steve Bruce after they were beaten 2-1 by Millwall at the Den.

Under the caretaker stewardship of Kevin Macdonald, Villa took an early lead through Tammy Abraham, but goals from Shane Ferguson and Tom Elliott saw the home side fight back.

West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle continued his impressive run of goalscoring with a brace to help earn the Baggies a 4- 1 win against Reading at The Hawthorns.

Albion fell behind to Leandro Bacuna’s early strike and never hit their stride until the start of the second half when on-loan Newcastle United marksman Gayle grabbed a 49th- minute equaliser. Gayle then scored his eighth goal of the season to give Albion the lead before Harvey Barnes struck. Kyle Bartley’s first goal for Albion sealed the win late on.

Geoff Cameron’s goal earned QPR a point in a 1- 1 draw with Derby at Loftus Road. Cameron equalised three minutes into the second half, cancelling out Jack Marriott’s 24th-minute opener.

Norwich’s eight match unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end at Carrow Road, where Stoke recorded a 1-0 win after Timm Klose’s own goal.
