Partick Thistle last night sacked manager Alan Archibald.

This latest defeat, which left the Jags third bottom of the table, was the final straw for the Firhill board after seeing their team go from top six in the Premiership to this.

Jacqui Low, said: “It is with regret that the board of Partick Thistle Football Club today terminated the contracts of Alan Archibald and Scott Paterson.

“As a club with a proud reputation for supporting and backing its managers, this decision was not taken lightly. But it has been taken in the best interests of the football club and our fans.

“We gave Alan our full support following relegation, but were clear from the outset that our sole objective was to secure promotion back to the Premiership.

“However, results have not met our expectations so if we are to still achieve our aim, a change had to happen now.

“The board wishes to place on record our genuine gratitude and thanks to Alan for his outstanding service to this club as player, captain, coach and manager.”

Chief executive Gerry Britton and Head of the Youth Academy, Scott Allison, will take charge of the team for Saturday’s game against Dundee United.

Ross County had failed to win in their previous five visits to Firhill, a record stretching back to February 2015, but they ended that record in a canter with goals in either half by Josh Mullin and Billy Mckay.

County made the breakthrough in the 15th minute when Sean Mcginty was weak in a tackle on Mullin, allowing the striker to run on and clip the ball low past Sneddon from 10 yards.

County might have doubled their lead seven minutes from the interval, but Vigurs was just off target with a curling 20-yard free-kick.

The points were wrapped up in 56 minutes when Mckay netted from the spot after Christie Elliott handled a Mullin effort for his seventh goal of the season.

The only sour note for County was a red card in stoppage time to Draper for a rash challenge on Stuart Bannigan.

County co-manager Steven Ferguson said: “Momentum in this league is crucial and the only way you get momentum is by winning games.”
