Fresh hope for Lily, 11, as backers raise £22k

-

Fundraisers are well on their way to raising the £40,000 needed to send cancer-stricken youngster Lily Douglas to Spain for lifesaving treatment.

Last month, scans showed that Lily, from Perth, was clear of cancer and her treatment was stopped.

But just weeks later her family received the news they dreaded as the latest scans showed her cancer had returned.

Following the diagnosis, the family travelled to Orlando, Florida, for a holiday – believing it would be the last one they would take with Lily.

Mum Jane said they wanted to “make memories” together.

She hoped that Lily would be able to swim with dolphins on her 11th birthday on Thursday.

However, since arriving in Florida the family has learned about a new treatment in Spain that they now hope will save Lily’s life.

The pioneering treatment will last two weeks and doesn’t involve chemotherapy.

Now a campaign to raise £40,000 to send Lily to Spain has been launched, with about £22,000 already pledged and a fundraising concert is planned for tonight.

Jane said: “The success rate for this treatment is much higher than chemotherapy.”
