Organisers claim 600,000 took to London streets

Hundreds of thousands of protesters calling for a referendum on the final Brexit deal marched in London yesterday.

Organisers claim the People’s Vote march attracted more than 600,000 people and brought the centre of the capital to a standstill.

MPS from all the main political parties were supporting the demonstration calling for a fresh referendum on the terms of any Brexit deal, even though Theresa May has ruled this out.

Labour’s Lord Adonis said: “Brexit’s becoming a dog’s dinner. Last week’s fresh chaos and confusion over Brexit negotiations has exposed how even the best deal now available will be a bad one for Britain.”

Meanwhile, business leaders claim jobs will be lost and work moved from the UK unless a withdrawal agreement is reached by December.

Carolyn Fairbairn, director general of the CBI, said the speed of negotiations over the UK leaving the EU was being outpaced by the reality firms were facing on the ground.

Brexit has also been blamed as consumer confidence in Scotland fell to its lowest level in more than a year.
