STORY BEHIND THE

-

What’s the story behind Everytime You Go Away by Paul Young? – S.

If you’re a stickler for grammatical correctness, you may have noticed that this is one of the few hit songs with a mistake in the title, as “Everytime” isn’t a word.

Don’t blame Paul Young, though. Although not released as a single, the song was written by Daryl Hall for Hall & Oates’ 1980 LP, Voices.

Young’s version, which formed part of his Live Aid mini-set, reached No 4 in March 1985.

Hall counts it as one of his favourite cover versions, saying: “I feel very proud of its craftmanship.”
