Roofing collapse

-

Worcester racecourse faced an emergency situation when the roof of the “totalisator building” collapsed.

The building was used to display odds for race day but spectators had clambered on top to take advantage of the viewpoint.

“The public had been told by loudspeaker twice during the afternoon to get off the roof, but they defied the warnings,” the article explains.

The report adds that 25 people were taken to hospital, five with serious injuries.

Police had earlier stopped a rush on the turnstiles by fans impatient to get into the racecourse.
