Mcgregor vows Celts can clip Leipzig wings

Callum Mcgregor insists Celtic are ready to shock Europe by clipping RB Leipzig’s wings.

The Hoops’ Europa League campaign continues on Thursday night in Germany, at the home of Bundesliga title-chasers Leipzig.

Backed by drinks giant Red Bull, the Germans have the financial muscle to match their strength on the park.

But Mcgregor believes Celtic can go toe-to-toe with Ralf Rangnick’s side and emerge victorious.

“There are some really good teams in the Europa League,” said Mcgregor.

“Salzburg got to the semi- finals and knocked out some really good teams along the way.

“These teams are taking it more and more seriously every year.

“If we were to go and get a result against a team of Leipzig’s stature, with the money they have spent, it would probably raise some eyebrows.”

He added: “They are sitting second in the Bundesliga, so that tells you how good a side they are.

“They have spent a lot of money over the last few years, they have really built the club, so it’s going to be difficult to go there and get a result.

“But we have to back ourselves. We’ve shown that we can go toe-to-toe with the best when we are set up and organised.

“If we play well we can come out with results. We have to prepare properly, do the right stuff and on the night we can come out with the right result.”

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig have been dealt a huge blow after star Swedish winger Emil Forsberg was ruled out of Thursday’s game.

The Germans will have to do without 26-year-old creative Swedish international Forsberg, who is expected to be out for three weeks.

Forsberg has a groin strain and missed yesterday’s trip to Augsburg.

Leipzig boss Ralph Rangnick said: “Emil will be missing for a few games and that’s a disappointment.

“It’s not a muscle tear, just a strain, but as a precaution he won’t play against Celtic and Schalke after that.”

Foresberg provided more assists than any other player in the Bundesliga last term and it’s one less problem the Hoops will have to deal with.
